Yesterday I went to my first local Paraplanners PowWow. This is an informal ‘unconference’ where people in my profession can gather to talk freely. It’s a great chance to meet others and find out how each other does things.
I’ve just joined the team that organise the London event so it was great to get stuck in. The session I was helping with was all about Suitability Reports. These are documents that we write for clients to explain what is being recommended to them, why, and what they need to know to make an informed decision. Our regulator recently shook up these documents with a more pragmatic approach, but the topic that comes up is how will the ombudsman approach this.
We had a lively debate and excellent ideas were shared by the delegates. In parallel a session looking at review processes took place. The morning closed with an ‘open-mic’ style Question & Discussion session. One area we talked about was the need to encourage people into the profession. Better links with universities was noted as one way forward, but there is more work to be done.
A big thanks goes to Seven Investment Management for hosting the meeting.
